How and when did you start djing? Started in my bedroom when I was very young, I was 12 when I got my first Kenwood belt-driven decks. My first proper gig in a nightclub was when I was 18 for a friend's birthday party. What do you think about the evolution of music and clubbing in the last 10 years? I think it has developed so fast and in so many different ways which is a good thing globally. I think that the UK is in a position where sometimes the people are spoilt for choice in terms of clubs and so unfortunately there is always a degree of cynical attitudes, but I think that the music has never been better. I always look at the positive side. What kind of music do you use to play? Cutting edge house music of various persuasions. Acid, techno, electro, deeper stuff, whatever suites the moment. I try not to pay too much attention to genres and concentrate on serving up quality. You are a dj and a producer... Which is going to be the kind of music of your next productions? It varies widely. I do not make music according to a formula and the scope can change between ambient music that is not for the dancefloor to hard-ish acid house to production involving bands. My current project is a remix of Underworld's new material. Tell us the names of your favourite producers, excluding you: I really like the music of Gabriel Ananda at the moment, also Pan/Tone, Oliver Lieb has started a new label for his more experimental techno releases which is fantastic (called Solieb) and I'm loving two other labels at the moment, Delsin and Frantic Flowers. I think they are both from Belgium. Where are you currently working and in which club would you like to play? Tonight I play in the Tunnel club in Georgia, and then tommorrow I'm at one of my favourite clubs which is Ultraviolet in Teramo in Italy. My residencies are Back to Basics in Leeds in the Uk, probably my favoruite club in the world, and then in summer I also hold a residency at WeLove... Sundays@Space, Ibiza. Tell us about the most exciting moments of your career and the nicest club where you worked at: Playing at Space this last summer was very exciting. It worked out in the way we wanted it to, and the new terrace there is fantastic. Also the first time I walked into Back to Basics was very special. The record that you love the most and at least 5 of your favourites: At the moment my favourite record is Gabriel Ananda's "Das Melodenspiel" on Karmarouge. (I may have the title wrong!). Another five would be: 1. Abe Duque & Blake Baxter "What Happened?" (Abe Duque) 2. Oliver Lieb "Machine" (Solieb) 3. Arthur Russel "Another Thought" LP 4. Mr V "V Gets Jazzy" (Vega) 5. Richie Hawtin "The Tunnel" (Novamute) What do you think about new technologies and particularly about the relation between internet and clubbing? I think that the surface of djing and the musical landscape is changing very fast because of new technoligies and in order for us to progress we must adopt and adapt to them. There is no point in holding onto old-school values if the sound is better and far more advanced. At the same time, I think it's important for djs to have a solid understanding of the history of their craft, and the ways in which to contribute to this and take it forward. Clubbing has expanded because of the internet and there is no way back. Things have changed for the better and now it is in our hands to make it even stronger.
