Eddie Halliwell

How and when did you start djing?
I started DJ’ing when I was 16 and then went onto University to do a course in Music Technology. Whilst doing this I got my break and soon after was fortunate to get residencies with both Gatecrasher and Goodgreef.

What do you think about the evolution of music and clubbing in the last 10 years?
Music has evolved considerably over the last few years, becoming a lot more commercially recognised all over the world and there has been a transition from vinyl to cd. I now use 3 or 4 Pioneer CDJ1000’s in my sets but always insist on a turntable also as there are still good tunes that come in vinyl format. Ableton has also had a big impact on the scene with many artists using it both in the studio and also live.

What kind of music do you use to play?
I play many different sounds, mainly tech trance but I enjoy anything with energy that allows me to be creative. My Radio 1 show gives me the opportunity to play all the different styles I enjoy. The show starts off on a tech house feel but finish -

es with some of the more driving sounds of Tech Trance.

You are a dj and a productor... Which one is going to be the kind of music of your next productions?
I do not produce at the moment as I am so busy with my DJ’ing. I have been very fortunate to get to play all over the world and have not yet had chance to take time off for the studio. Production is something that I plan to do sometime in the future.

Where are you currently working and in which club would you like to play?
I am about to tour America & Canada with dates in LA, Vancouver, Puerto Rico and Miami. I enjoy playing in South America and would love to explore there more often.

Tell us about the most exciting moments of your career and the nicest club where you worked at:
There have been many exciting moments for me in my career. Playing Ibiza the first time 5 years ago for Judgement Sunday was awesome and more recently Cream at Amnesia, which is one of the worlds greatest clubs, give me fond memories. I will always remember the day I was told I ha -

my own Radio 1 Show. Other exciting moments for me were breaking into the top 20 in The World DJ Mag Poll and winning Mixmag’s World DJ Of The Year for the second time.

Favourite record at the moment?
Second Sun ‘Playground’ (Nu NRG Remix) & Marcel Woods ‘Advanced’

What do you think about new technologies and particularly about the relation between internet and clubbing?
I think it is great that new technologies are always being introduced to the scene. I have collected 8 mixers at home all with different features which I enjoy. I work closely with Pioneer on the development of new technology. They have brought out some great pieces of equipment which have helped create new sounds and move the scene forward, in particular The CDJ1000 and EFX Unit. I think that new advances are great for clubbing. I love to interact with the crowd as this and they are what create the atmospheres. The internet has become a good way of growing clubbing communities and spreading information.
