Dean Coleman

How and when did you start djing?
I was in college and I fell in love with electronic music, early moby and tribal America records! I was playing college parties at the time and then started to play clubs in the Southern Part of the US where I lived at the time. I was never a big party person but I loved to be out so Djing allowed me to do both and be the center of attention!

What do you think about the evolution of music and clubbing in the last 10 years?
I think music and clubbing has progressed in a positive way over the last 10years. Everything has it's ups and downs and obviously Clubbing had a bit of a downturn for a minute but is definately on the rise again because the music itself is so good and will never die. I think it's come a long way from where it was when I started as far as the masses understanding the music there being more fans of it.

What kind of music do you use to play?
I play everything as long as it's good! I can't stick to one sound because it's popular at the moment, I've always liked different styles , techy, minimal but then a big vocal track also. I've tried to reflect that in my productions also! The magic of a good DJ is one that can mix up those passions for the crowd !

You are a dj and a productor... Which one is going to be the kind of music of your next productions?
Right now I'm putting the finishing touches on se -

veral things one being my Remix of Roger Sanchez Lost! I did one mix last year that we kind of sat on and played out to see how it worked I wanted to add some things so I'm changing it for WMC. This is a vocal track with big pianos and guitars ! Beautiful Vocal ofcourse! I also did an original called Hypnotic which is an electro banger! I also did another vocal record called Should Of Been There with Janis Leahy which is more of a progressive vocal track and then another vocal called 'Bring On The Night' with a group in NYC called 'Cloud Kickers!' They are all different sounding and reflect what I'm loving in music right now. My remix of Danny and Nick Chalatien "Is Killing Me" for Ovum will drop in Miami again, totally another sound! LOL

Tell Us The Names Of Your Favourite Productors, Excluding You:
Danny and Nick Chalatien - Is Killing Me, Sube Conmigo ! HOT!, DJ Simi, Samio (Yoshitoshi), Austin Leads, Planet Funk, Roger Sanchez! *(his album is amazing) and Deep Dish ofcourse! Also my boys out of Atlanta! High Mix! Sami and Jeff are really about to start rocking it right now!

Where are you currently working and in which club would you like to play?
I play so many places that it's hard to say in which clubs but I can say Pacha biza is my favorite home away from home because the magic that the place has. No other place in the world feels like Pacha, Ibiza! I had a blast this past summer at Il Mueretto in Ital -

! WOW! I love playing Tunisia also, Cotton Club ! Sick! Cro Bar NYC is amazing also!

Tell us about the most exciting moments of your career and the nicest club where you worked at:
I would say Pacha, Ibiza I had my most exciting moment playing for Roger S @ Release Yourself ! It's just a vibe that you can't find anywhere else in the world!

The Record That You Loves More And At Least 5 Of Your Favourites:
1- Cloud Kickers with Dean Coleman - Bring On The Night - Dean Coleman "ElectroSheen" Remix
2- Dean Coleman feat. Janis Leahy - Should Of Been There - Original Mix
3- Dyad - Sugar - Original Mix
4- Skylark - When In Rome
5- Danny and Nick Chalatien - Salta

What do you think about new technologies and particularly about the relation between internet and clubbing?
I think the internet has been quite helpful to not only advertise the clubs but also the music itself! To be able to see a video of a party with a big record being dropped and the crowd going crazy is much better than to just hear about it! I think that the internet is the best tool out there to draw in people to the clubs and events through pictures, video and the music itself. Not all downloading is a bad thing! Message boards and the like allow people to also communicate and give necessari feedback to djs' , promoters and club owners about whats happening right now!
Thanks for your time! Dean Coleman
